Episode 10 – Ken Barr Jnr | Strengths-based Coach
As a fellow strengths coach, Ken and I discuss his journey to becoming a coach and the impact strengths has made in his life. Ken is dedicated to helping individuals and teams discover, develop, and apply their strengths.
Ken Barr Jnr is a Licensed Professional counselor, career coach, organizational consultant and all around great guy! I’ve got to know Ken through attending the Clifton Strengths Summits in Omaha and I loved catching up with Ken to discuss his journey to becoming a strengths coach and the impact strengths has made in his life. We also discuss Marvel and Spider Man (a common interest).
Ken’s Top 5 Strengths are Input, Maximizer, Arranger, Woo and Learner. We explore how Ken has embraced his strengths, how they have shown up in his life and how he applies them for his success.
We also discuss Ken’s love of the Michigan Wolverine’s and how they are the winningest NCAA team.
Ken is dedicated to helping individuals and teams discover, develop, and apply their strengths. He works frequently in the education, non-profit, retail, hospitality, healthcare, and customer service fields providing solutions that include program startup, team development, best practices, recognition, and talent insights.
Key highlights on this episode include:
-
How to have difficult conversations with people utilising strengths-based language to have a more empowering and positive outcome.
-
Why you need to challenge your own assumptions to work differently once you know your strengths and those of your team members.
-
Why unsolicited application of some strengths – in Ken’s case, Maximiser – can actually be detrimental to relationships and teams (be aware of your blindspots).
